This was such a well written review and omg I absolutely loved Last Days at Forcados High School. That book was ahead of its time. Need to find it and reread it.

This was among the first Nigerian literatures I read and enjoyed. I'm somehow emotionally connected to it. I'll go read it again 😅

Now I want to read this book. I didn't read Forcados High for Jamb that year. Purple Hibiscus was the book back then. I feel old

Time really flies, right?😂 It’s crazy how JAMB novels have evolved over the years, tho.

I bought this book when I first entered uni and now I’m done with uni. I still haven’t read it. Maybe I should?

“…..Last Days at Forcados High School and Independence for JAMB English read.”

i’m curious, is “Last days” and “independence” the name of a book?

Yes, they are both books. Last Days at Forcados High School is by A.H. Mohammed, and Independence is a novel by Sarah Ladipo Manyika. Both books have been used in the JAMB English curriculum.

would you say the current uni have it easier in terms of this fraternity?

Yea, to some extent. Fraternities don't seem as rampant as before, and I think they operate more secretly now.

I've never read African literature but now I must. This book sounds super interesting. I am looking forward to adding this to my to be read collection. I have Benin ancestry, I am African American so I am pretty disconnected to my African roots. Excited to learn about the culture through this story.

I'm so glad this book piqued your interest. It’s a great choice to explore Nigerian culture and history to some extent, and it’s awesome that you want to reconnect with your roots through literature🥹

I’d love to hear your thoughts once you’ve read it!
