And guess where I finished reading this piece? Yup! The bathroom!!

I started reading in my room but I couldn’t drop it and so I carried it with me into the bathroom. I also read there-interesting stuff anyways.

My! I’m not sure I have the words to describe this piece yet. Maybe the word magical will have to do.

I’ll never see my bathroom the same way again. All thanks to you 😃

Lollllll. Now that’s the highest honor a piece can receive, accompanying a reader into the hallowed reading space that is the bathroom while reading about a the emotions we dispel inside the bathroom. I’m grinning so hard at this!!😂

And magical? That’s a word I’m holding on to dearly. Thank you for this🥹🤍

Definitely😂😂😂

In my writings, on my praying mat in my room 🌚, with people I trust. Rarely ever in the bathroom.

This was so beautiful to read. I'm definitely my most vulnerable in the bathroom. It's probably not just me and sometimes we worry that other people may not be able to handle that weight, or worse that they'll not understand.

So we talk to the walls and mirrors in the bathroom and wash our faces on the way out.

Elizabeth, this means so much🫂🤍

Yeah, the bathroom really is a quiet refuge, a place to let it all out before stepping back into the world.

And I love how you put it, talking to the walls and mirrors, then washing our faces like a reset. Thank you🥹🤍

Come on! The fire that burst out of me simply by resting this…

Thanks for your words. I love rhythm in prose and that’s what your writing gave me. Thank you.

Anyway, I’m most vulnerable in my room. My pillow knows more than anyone else.

I’m so glad that my writing gave you that😭🤍

Your pillow, though? Never thought of that. And it’s sincerely beautiful, what matters is that we can dispel our sorrow/rants somewhere🫂🤍🤍🤍🤍

You write so beautifully. 💐

I checked out the poll and I'm low-key sad that no one chose "with someone you trust". Though, I have to admit that I wouldn't have chosen it either.(maybe except if Jesus counts as someone)

Is it out of a lack of trust worthy people or out of an instinct to protect pride and survival by appearing strong?

Expand full comment
Dhimma Ayogu's avatar

Oh, this is such a thoughtful reflection. Thank you for reading, and for seeing🫂🤍

I wondered the same thing about the poll. Is it a lack of trust, or is it the quiet conditioning to hold our own weight, to wear strength like armor even when we long to be held? I bet it’s the latter!!

And if Jesus counts (which, honestly, I think He does), then maybe there’s still a kind of trust at play, just one that transcends human hands🥹🤍

Thank you for your kind words🫂🤍🤍
